Minutes after a horse
they owned sold for $3.5-million, Bob and Beverly Lewis went to
$2.7-million to purchase a Mr. Greeley filly who is a full
sister to Grade 1 winner and sire El Corredor and half sister to
Grade 1 winner Roman Ruler...
"She just had an outstanding conformation," Lewis said. "It’s
nice to be able to buy into such a great pedigree. We were
expecting to spend a lot, but $2.7-million sort of caught us by
surprise. You want to do the right thing, though. Maybe she’ll
make that look like a bargain."
John G. Sikura’s Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent for
Liberation Farm and Needham-Betz Thoroughbreds, consigned the
dark bay or brown filly who is out of the unraced Silver Deputy
mare Silvery Swan. She attracted a wide variety of bidders
before the hammer fell on Lewis’s final bid of $2.7-million.
