Stakes winner
Adieu rebounded from an off-the-board finish in her
previous start to score one-length victory over familiar
rival Folklore in the $250,000 Spinaway Stakes (G2) on
Friday at Saratoga Race Course.
The victory was the first graded stakes triumph for
the bay daughter of El Corredor as she held off
Folklore, who she also beat in the Astoria Stakes on
July 3 at Belmont Park, in the final sixteenth of the
seven-furlong test for juvenile fillies.
Trained by Todd Pletcher, Adieu broke sharply and
showed good speed on the outside as she pressed
pacesetter Effectual through a robust quarter-mile in
:22.25 and a half-mile in :45.41.
Taking command in the turn under jockey John
Velazquez, she dug in gamely in the stretch to draw
clear and hold off Folklore, winner of the Adirondack
Stakes (G2) on July 27, by a length, covering the
distance in 1:23.68 on a fast track.
